Forza Horizon 6

The wait is almost over. On May 19th, the Horizon Festival finally touches down in Japan. With a Tokyo map five times bigger than anything we’ve seen before and the return of deep Japanese car culture, Forza Horizon 6 looks like it’s finally giving fans exactly what they’ve been begging for since the Colorado days.

Forza Horizon 6 feels like the next big step for open‑world racing. It brings that signature Horizon energy — fast cars, huge landscapes, and pure freedom — but with a level of detail and atmosphere that makes the world feel alive. Whether you’re drifting through tight streets, blasting across open highways, or exploring off‑road trails, the game gives you a ton of ways to play and make your own fun.

The map is easily one of the biggest draws. Every region has its own personality, weather, and challenges, and the transitions feel seamless. Dynamic weather hits harder than ever — storms roll in, sunlight breaks through clouds, and the whole world reacts around you. It’s the kind of thing that makes you stop mid‑race just to take it in.

Car variety is huge, and tuning still gives you full control over how each ride handles. Whether you’re building a street racer, a drift monster, or an off‑road beast, Forza Horizon 6 gives you the tools to make it feel exactly how you want. Events, showcases, and seasonal challenges keep the game fresh, and online play stays smooth and competitive.
If you love open‑world racing games that mix exploration, customization, and pure speed, Forza Horizon 6 hits that sweet spot. It’s easy to get lost in the world for hours — in the best way.

The Map: It is the largest and most dense map in the series to date.

Tokyo City: The urban center is the star of the show. It’s roughly five times larger than Forza Horizon 5’s Guanajuato and features multiple districts, from neon-soaked downtown streets to industrial docklands.

Verticality & Biomes: The map isn’t just flat; it includes everything from the massive Mount Fuji to rural mountain passes perfect for Touge Battles (night-time mountain racing).

Cover Cars: The 2025 Toyota GR GT Prototype and the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser.

Engine Audio: The team has remastered engine sounds using new acoustic modeling to better reflect Japan’s environments (like echoes in tunnels).

Ray Tracing: On PC and Series X, the game features Ray-Traced Global Illumination (RTGI) and reflections that work in the open world, not just in a garage mode.

One of the biggest atmosphere-builders in the new map is the Railway System. Unlike the generic loops in Mexico or the UK, Japan’s rail network is a core part of the environment:

  • Shinkansen (Bullet Train): You’ll frequently see the iconic high-speed bullet trains streaking across elevated tracks in the distance or over the highways. While you can’t “race” them in a traditional sense, they are used in one of the game’s massive Showcase Events.
  • Local Metro & Yamanote Line: In the Tokyo City districts, you’ll find commuter trains (inspired by the green Yamanote Line) running on elevated tracks above the streets. These add a layer of “verticality” to the city, with tracks weaving between skyscrapers and over canal bridges.
  • Active Railroad Crossings: To nail the “nostalgic” Japanese aesthetic, the rural and suburban areas are filled with functional railroad crossings. These are high-risk zones in races and The Eliminator, where a passing local train can completely T-bone you if your timing is off.
  • Drifting Under the Tracks: Some of the best drift spots in the Tokyo “Docks” and “Suburbs” districts are located directly under the concrete railway pillars, offering a gritty, urban feel that fans have been wanting since Need for Speed: Underground.

If you love racing games with depth, variety, and great handling, this one definitely deserves a spot on your list.
